How To Create A Target List

Creating a target list is a great starting point when deciding on where to attend college. There are thousands of schools to choose from, and you can eliminate majority of them by creating a target list of schools based on what you want out of college. Using academics, athletics, and personal preferences as the backbone of your target list will help yield the best results.

It is important that you do some research on schools that are on your target list. A very small percentage of college athletes go on to play professionally, but they do go on to become professionals in some field. We recommend using Campus Tours to do your research.

We are excited to unveil the latest feature to hit the RecruitLook community… “Twitter” integration. Twitter is the fastest growing social network/marketing website on the web today. Twitter allows people to follow sources relevant to them and access information as it happens. We have integrated Twitter for all our members to access. With this feature you can now stay connected with friends, and follow college recruiters more closely. Twitter is a great tool to briefly tweet information that recruiters, coaches and fans can find useful. This feature is not only for athletes to expand their marketing reach, but also for college coaches to discover and connect with high school athletes.

Made with oAuth authentication protocol which means more security and user privacy.

High school athletes need to be organized

One of the more crucial aspects of recruiting is staying organized. You should always have your transcripts, test scores, contact information, and athletic stats accessible for college coaches. You should also keep track of emails, phone calls placed, text messages, visits, and other NCAA rules to ensure you stay eligible with the NCAA. Once you start making connections with coaches you will start to receive brochures, letters, questionnaires, evaluation forms, and much more. You need to keep these documents separated between schools. Staying organized will help you track every step of the recruiting process. It would be foolish for a scholarship opportunity to pass you by because you didn’t have your documents straight. You can use the Recruiting Organizer to keep track of addresses, your grades, and your schedule.

Recruiting help as a high school freshman

During your freshman year you really shouldn’t be worried about the recruiting process. Sure it should be in the back of your mind, but the real focus should be on getting better in the classroom and on the playing field. You have 3 more years to figure out what you want to do when you’re older, or where you want to attend college. This is your youth so enjoy it. Here are a few pointers for you so you will be prepared when you get older.

-Study up! Do not slack in the classroom. It is hard to bring your GPA up if you get off to a bad start. Later on when you need to be practicing you will be stuck in study hall. Making a commitment to make good grades your freshmen year will set the tone for the rest of your high school career. It doesn’t matter how good you are on the field if you become academically ineligible. Plus coaches look a lot at your grades. A smart student in the classroom can translate to a smart athletic IQ on the field. We can’t stress enough how important your academics are. Don’t let a coach pass on your playing talents because your grades are lousy.

-It’s never too early to start thinking about college. We did mention not to worry about the recruiting process your freshman year. We still stand by that comment, we just don’t want you to wake up your senior year and not have anything put together. You should jot down some schools that interest you. Use the college search on RecruitLook.com, and click on the details tab or the university’s web address. Look over the school’s academic and athletic information. If you still have an interest in the school then get the coach’s contact information. You can gather that from the school’s website or from RecruitLook.com if the coach is an active member. Store that information in the Recruiting Organizer offered by RecruitLook.com. Now you have a list going with some possible schools that you can contact on a later date. There is no reason to stress about the recruiting process as a freshman. We are getting you ahead of the game.

-Attend team and individual camps offered by the universities that you are interested in. This is a good way for the coaching staff to recognize you and get to know who you are. Coaches have an opportunity to converse and interact with you on a different level. During this time coaches won’t be recruiting you but rather evaluating you. Coaches take everything into account when making a decision on a recruit. They’ll look to see if you are on time, if you are focused, do you warm-up or goof off, do you listen well to instructions, how do you interpret instructions, and the list goes on. Just remember a bad attitude will leave a lasting impression.

-Don’t get caught up in the moment if you start receiving letters. Your first collegiate letter is a big deal no doubt, however; as a freshman you are more than likely just being entered into a database. A lot can change in three years, for example: the coach could get fired, that program doesn’t need a player like you just yet, or the college doesn’t have any scholarships to offer. Getting letters from coaches is exciting, but don’t think that a letter means you will be getting an offer. Stay the course and continue to get better on and off the field. Then the letters will start to become offers.
